THE CHESTERFIELD STORY There
seems to be much debate and differences of opinion as to the timing of
the release of the 1st Chesterfield, although all agree that
it occurred between the 18th and 19th century.
Apparently the first Chesterfield was commissioned by the 4th
Earl of Chesterfield and was one of the first pieces of furniture
to be put into mass production (although not as mass production as we
know it today). The
ORIGINAL Chesterfield was plain, without diamond buttoning or cushions.
